With Lauren Whatley

Conversations About Racism is a series of talks with Lauren Whatley to explore how racism has affected us personally, as well as our world. We will be leveraging Lauren’s expertise and background in race, gender and systems of oppression. Lauren holds a Master’s in Gender and Race Studies, a Bachelor’s in Human Development with a concentration in Oppression. She teaches Women’s Studies at the University of Alabama. We will share in Lauren’s personal stories of racism, as well as many of the headline topics necessary for our own personal growth. We will talk about:

  • Generational trauma from slavery and racism

  • Racism’s beginnings and definitions

  • Explore feelings towards the Constitution

  • How to feel about slave owner’s pictures on money

  • What is white privilege? Should white people feel bad about it?

  • Racial gaslighting

  • Black Lives Matter as a phrase and questions about the formal movement

  • Perspectives on protests, riots and looting

  • Police brutality and black crime statistics

  • Affirmative Action and reverse racism

  • Kneeling during the National Anthem

As you can imagine this will be an amazing multiple-week conversation.
